Enhancing Crop Health And Yield: The Importance Of A V10 Corn Stage Fungicide Application

Jun 22, 2023

In today's rapidly evolving agricultural landscape, maximizing crop health and yield is of paramount importance. Farmers face numerous challenges, and one critical aspect is combating fungal diseases that can wreak havoc on corn crops. This is where the application of fungicide at the V10 corn stage is proving to be an invaluable tool. By targeting diseases at this crucial growth stage prior to tassel, farmers can effectively manage early season fungal infections.

The advantages of a V10 corn stage fungicide application extend beyond disease management. By optimizing plant health, fungicides contribute to improved plant physiology, stress tolerance, and nutrient utilization. Healthy corn plants are better equipped to withstand environmental pressures such as drought, excessive heat, or nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, healthier plants exhibit enhanced photosynthetic activity, leading to higher grain production and improved crop quality.

Local trials conducted over the past two years near Newton, KS have revealed promising results from a V10 fungicide application. These trials showcased an average yield response of 13.5 bushels per acre. It is important to note that both years involved the use of a dual mode of action fungicide in combination with Masterlock as the adjuvant. In the first year's trial, the application was carried out using a ground rig with a water carrier volume of 20 gallons per acre, while in the second year's trial, an airplane was used with a water carrier volume of 3 gallons per acre. Despite the 2022 crop year being characterized by challenging drought and heat stress conditions, resulting in an overall lower-yielding crop compared to 2021, the yield response from the V10 fungicide application remained consistent with the previous year. These findings highlight the potential benefits of implementing a V10 fungicide application on corn.

In conclusion, the application of fungicide at the V10 corn stage is proving to be an effective strategy for combating fungal diseases and optimizing crop health and yield. By protecting corn plants during this critical growth phase, farmers can mitigate disease pressure, increase stress tolerance, and promote robust growth. With the pressing need to meet global food demands, utilizing fungicides at the V10 stage not only capture additional bushels. Embracing this innovative approach empowers farmers to enhance productivity and can play a crucial role in improving their bottom line.

From the time they hit the ground until they are in the sale ring many farmers and ranchers depend on a good calf crop to ensure their production stays running. Cow/calf operations do not always know when to focus resources to gain optimal returns. Weaning calves is one of those crucial times that should be heavily weighed in on with any operation.

Looking ahead to the 2024 wheat crop, seed variety selection is one of the most important decisions a grower will make.  Seed production this year was a challenge due to a drier-than-normal Winter and Spring.  MKC is fortunate to have a mix of dryland and irrigated seed production to ensure supply even when we have weather challenges like this year.
